While it is easier to experiment with large scale fluvial behaviour with the help of digital simulation tools such as CEM or CAESAR-lisflood, physical simulations are more informational in the case of observing small case phenomena such as deposition and avulsion in rivers.

In this experiment, the environment lab was used to emulate conditions that are organically generated in an alluvial floodplain and the behaviour of the water and grain were observed to study the meandering tendencies of the fluid under different built conditions within the tank. The results were then presented in Simulating Environments, a crossgraduate event to develop a discourse about simulated design and experiments at the AA.
